Characteristics: Telogen Effluvium is another common hair
loss type. It usually occurs suddenly and a person that suffers
from this hair loss condition should regain all his or hers hair.
Telogen effluvium causes hair thinning over the scalp because of
changes in the hair growth cycle. Typically reasons for Telogen
effluvium are if you have recently suffered from a severe illness,
have experienced severe stress or had a physical or emotional
shock. Women can also suffer from Telogen Effluvium after giving
birth.
Telogen Effluvium is characterized by a great number of hairs enter
the resting phase (Telagon phase) simultaneously. This causes
abnormal hair loss in certain areas of the scalp.
Duration: Normally around six to nine months.
Cause & Cure: Research has not been able to provide an
answer to this condition, but factors involved are most likely a
person's level of Androgens hormones as well as heredity reasons.
No cure for Telogen Effluvium exists today.
